Description:
Staged within historic St Cuthbert’s Church, with echoes of its graveyard, Whale Fall is a meditation on mortality, blending autobiography, anthropology and theatre. The work unfolds as a scenic ritual inspired by theatre maker Bruna Longo’s experience of losing her father. Facing this inescapable reality, she imagines her own death and attempts to mourn herself (the one thing we cannot do) while reflecting on how contemporary Western societies avoid confronting finitude. Co-directed by Vitor Julian, the production has been acclaimed by audiences and critics in São Paulo, Brazil.
