Description:
Interested in fashion? Loved Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte? Then we have the talk for you! Frances Burney (1752-1830) once said of a concert 'though everybody seems to admire, hardly anybody listens'. This statement captures the essence of the 18th-century concert where fashion was seemingly more important than the music itself. Using Burney’s account, Dr Emily Taylor, one of the National Museum's Assistant Curators, will bring together novels, prints, portraits and memoirs to explore the fashions you might have seen gracing the Concert Room of St Cecilia's Hall in the late 18th century.
