Description:
A series of interconnected playlets describe life in German in the 1930s, dramatising the suspicion and anxiety experienced by ordinary people as Hitler grew to power. A growing distrust between friends and colleagues and even of their own family members affects everyone, exposing Nazi terror. We know the results, what we are looking for is the beginning. Brecht's picture of the breakdown of normal relationships under the Nazis is not only of historical interest, but emotionally transfixing, and may serve as a cautionary tale to fascism today.
