Edinburgh Fringe - Statistics

The Team at Plan My Fringe are always interested in the facts and figures behind the Edinburgh Fringe, and we obviously have too much time on our hands. We have provided these stats, graphs and maps because we can! We hope you also find them interesting.

The totals currently only show information based on the 2024 shows that have been released so far. As soon as more shows are released, the stats will automatically be updated.

The shows and performance total will regularly change during the Fringe as shows and performances get added or cancelled.

More stats and graphs will be added as we think of them.

How many shows could you see at the 2023 Fringe?

319 Shows

This is slightly down on our 2019 record, but up on 2022, which was 311 shows. The Plan My Fringe algorithm said the maximum number of different shows that could possibly have be seen during the 25 days of the 2019 Fringe was 321 shows. That averages 12.84 shows a day! If you don't believe us, you can find the proof here.

Due to the cancelled 2020 Fringe and reduced 2021 Fringe, these numbers weren't beaten in these years.

We have run the algorithm again for 2023 and can't quite beat 2019, but have come up with 319 In-Person shows during the 25 days of the 2023 Fringe. See the proof here.

As soon as the full Fringe programme is released in June 2024 we will see re-run the algorithm to see if we can beat the record.
